"Safe Room" now in use!

25-6-2020

Red Lake Hospital is happy to announce that patients experiencing mental health and addictions issues will now have access to a designated “Safe Room” when they present to the Emergency Department.  An existing patient room has been renovated for this purpose, with funding that was awarded by Ontario Health North.

The Safe Room is a step forward in delivering quality care to patients that may be experiencing a mental health or addictions crisis.  Until now, the Emergency Department has been designed to provide care to patients with physical health issues, and that space can be over-stimulating and create risk for those who come to the hospital in a mental health or addictions emergency.  When you are in a mental health or addictions crisis, an environment that is calm and quiet can help reduce crisis.  The RLMCMH Safe Room is a space that prioritizes patient safety, while allowing for more private assessment and intervention.

The safe room is already in regular use and living up to its purpose.
