Fire Circle Gathering Area
7-10-2021
For several months now, RLMCMH has been working with various community partners on the Hospital Indigenous Patient Experience Working Group. The purpose of this group is to share and generate ideas for improving the Indigenous patient experience in our facility, as well as to provide a safe and open forum for communication and learning.
One of the first projects that has been undertaken by this group is the Fire Circle Gathering Area. On September 22, this space officially opened! Thank-you to the Friendship Centre, the Hospital Indigenous Patient Experience Working Group and Hospital staff for collaborating on this project!
We would also like to thank Barrens Northern Transportation for their very generous donation of the sand / gravel to fill the space!
The new fire gathering area will provide a safe space for traditional healing practices. It will also provide a place for visiting and friendship. We were lucky to celebrate with drumming & bannock! Thank-you to all that participated! We look forward to many more gatherings in this special space.
The Indigenous Patient Experience Working Group continues to meet, regularly. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from each other and to improve the delivery of patient care!
